Whilst writing her first end-of-day progress report upon arriving to the construction site, the man behind the mission approached her. He started talking about his true vision of Olympia, a place for endless possibilities: social and technological progress. He had promised her that here she could still report to the princess about her learnings in the way of friendship, since a new community means new faces, and possibly new friends. He had only told her of this as she was the most trust worthy with her connections with the princesses, of whom she respected greatly and would never lie to; stretch the truth maybe but never lie. With a quick letter detailing their progress to the princesses, her second letter to them was more detailed and weighted. She explained that she will remain in Olympia until further notice with her reasons going along the lines of "new faces, new friends" and "outlets for research". While saddened by this, Celestia was reassured by the fact that she will still be in contact with her via messages through Spike.

To keep herself occupied, as making a city can take some time, she started a project of her own: trying to find a way to give anypony the ability to use magic, or at least give them magical abilities. Early in her research she discovered that everypony, even earth ponies, have small amounts of magic in them. This is what she would classify as natural or wild magic, whilst a unicorn, such as herself, would have controlled magic given the innate ability to, well, "control" magic. later on in her research she found a way to harvest this "wild" magic from organic or crystalline objects. Organic matter can only contain so much magic but it could be varied and specialized, whilst crystals could contain large quantities of magic, but of only one kind or strand of magic. So needles to say, she needed someone to collect and store the magic whilst she continued working on how to modify or enchant crystalline based structures to imbued specific magical traits into a pony. So she asked her brother and his guards to "assist" her.
